Enhanced measuring technology in education

ZEISS Academic Program

To address the critical gaps in metrology education within engineering programs in Southeast Asia, we present the ZEISS Academic Program, designed to equip universities with state-of-the-art inspection technology and comprehensive training.

The ZEISS Academic Program builds on the legacy of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, established in 1889 to promote sciences, engineering, and mathematics education. Recognizing the importance of precision manufacturing, the program aims to prepare students for the workforce by providing access to the latest metrology technology.

In total, 34 universities and colleges around Southeast Asia have joined the ZEISS Academic Program.

Background and current challenges

Southeast Asia's higher education sector has been rapidly evolving, with various initiatives aimed at improving engineering education through international collaborations and innovative programs. Despite these efforts, a critical area remains underdeveloped: metrology education.

This gap poses a significant challenge as industries, especially those involved in precision manufacturing like the electric vehicle market, require skilled professionals proficient in metrology for quality assurance and accurate inspections.

While engineering education in Southeast Asia is improving, there is a notable deficiency in the provision of metrology education within engineering programs. This gap in education leaves graduates unprepared to meet the precision demands of modern industries, ultimately hindering the region's economic growth and global competitiveness.
